IMPACT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ON NIGERIAN AIR FORCE OPERATIONS: THE JOURNEY SO FAR INTRODUCTION PROTOCOL I consider it an honour and privilege to be invited to deliver a lecture to the participants of Senior Executive Course 39. I therefore express my appreciation to the Acting Director General and staff of this Institute for the honour. I am particularly delighted that the theme of this year’s training cycle is “Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for the Development of Agricultural and Agro-Allied Industries in Nigeria”. I must admit that this theme could not have been more apt given that at this time in our nation's developmental efforts, we are looking inwards to find alternative sources of income as well as the full capacity to feed our

Motherhood: 'child bearing is a gift'

Image
Photo credit: facebook She had the privilege of getting her make up before contraction and delivery. I admire her rare privilege and grace. In Africa child bearing could be reckoned with pain and a lot nostalgia when taught about. It is as a result of poor medical facilities for maternal health care and pregnancy induced medical conditions. Efforts can be made to improve on this and make the lives of mother, child and citizen a lot healthier. In the words of Mahatma Ghandi: 'it is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver' Wishing all mothers and intending mothers a safe and healthy delivery. So Humbling: 2017 eclipse of the sun as seen in America

Image
CBS News' Jamie Yuccas spent the afternoon in Madras, Oregon, which has a population of 7,000 and was one of the first places in America to watch day turn into night. One-hundred thousand stargazers surged into the city, and when the magic moment arrived -- totality -- people across the country gaped in wonder.  It happened at exactly 10:19 a.m. and lasted precisely 2 minutes and 2 seconds. "The light got so weird. And it was like, the world never looks like this," eclipse watcher Rebecca Boyd told Yuccas. The town of 6,200 estimates it packed in 100,000 spectators, including Mona Thompson. "I totally cried … I don't know why," Thompson said. "It was just so awesome." Source: CBS news

None other than  Adele  was in the audience when  Jill Scott  made her debut at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl Wednesday evening. The sold-out performance -- the second half of a double bill featuring  Robert Glasper Experiment  -- was the latest installment in the L.A. Phil’s 2017 Jazz at the Bowl summer series. “I’m quite a combination,” declared Scott before ticking off a list of various influences that included  Barbra Streisand ,  Bette Midler ,  Diana Ross  and  Millie Jackson . And Scott channeled all four of her musical heroes as she strutted, sashayed, laughed and conversed her way through a rousing, nearly 90-minute performance that kept her fervent fan base on its feet singing, dancing and cheering the whole time.

Appointment: Peggy Abkemeier Alford as the Chief Financial Officer for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Image
Photo: Facebook Mark Zuckerberg revealed on his Facebook page a  new appointment to his philanthropic initiative - Chan Zuckerberg Initiative: "I'm excited to welcome Peggy Abkemeier Alford as the Chief Financial Officer for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. One of the biggest challenges running a large philanthropic initiative is measuring results and deciding how to invest capital across different disciplines. For example, how do we know whether we'll have a greater impact investing more into personalized learning to help students today, or long term science research that could cure diseases in the future, or advocacy for important issues like immigration reform? At a company like Facebook, the market provides a helpful feedback loop. We have a clear sense of how many people we can hire and how much infrastructure we can build to bring people closer together while creating a sustainable organization. But without that market dynamic in philanthropy, building a dis

Guess who is planning for another paternity leave!!!

Image
Photo credit: Facebook "When Max was born, I took two months of paternity leave. I will always be grateful I could spend so much time with her in the first months of her life. Our new daughter is coming soon, and I'm planning to take two months of paternity leave again. This time, I'm going to take advantage of Facebook's option to take leave in parts. I'll take a month off to be with Priscilla and the girls at the beginning, and then we'll spend the whole month of December together as well. I'm looking forward to bonding with our new little one and taking Max on adventures. At Facebook, we offer four months of maternity and paternity leave because studies show that when working parents take time to be with their newborns, it's good for the entire family. And I'm pretty sure the office will still be standing when I get back." Mark Zukerberg.
