Nigerian widows seek to sue Shell in Dutch courts

THE HAGUE (AFP) -  Four Nigerian women are taking legal action in the Dutch courts against Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell accusing it of complicity in the 1990s executions of their husbands by the Nigerian military, Amnesty International said Thursday. The civil case has been brought by Esther Kiobel, the widow of Barinem Kiobel, who was hanged in 1995 along with writer and campaigner Ken Saro-Wiwa and seven others. Three other widows are also joining the action in The Hague. A writ was set to be placed before a civil court in The Hague on Thursday alleging that Shell was complicit "in the unlawful arrest, detention and execution of nine men who were hanged by Nigeria's military government in the 1990s," Amnesty said in a statement. Saro-Wiwa, president and founder of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), and eight fellow activists were executed on November 10, 1995 after a military tribunal convicted them of the murder of four tradition

Donald Trump Receives Chibok girls at the Oval Office

US President, Donald Trump has met with the two Chibok girls, Joy Bishara and Lydia Pogu who just graduated from Canyonville Christian Academy, United States where they had gone to complete school.  Mr Trump met with the girl at the oval office, white house, Washington alongside Mr Trump's influential daughter, Ivanka and a host of others. In August of the same year over 200 girls were abducted by Boko Haram in Government Secondary School, Chibok, the duo and several other girls who were able to escaped moved to the United States with the help of a Christian nonprofit organisation and a Nigerian activist group. Having graduated from high school, the two girls are due to attend Southeastern University in Florida in the fall and have started a GoFundMe to help with their expenses. This is the first time the girls will be meeting Mr Trump after he became President on January 20 following his victory over Hillary Clinton.
